Kaan is the founder of Verbal and a software developer. He created Verbal to explore how hearing each other’s voices could lead to more respectful conversations and more personal connections.

I grew up without the internet until my teenage years. Friendship meant making plans and showing up, without a cellphone to rearrange everything. Watching friendships become requests to accept or cancel made me miss that sense of commitment. Online, I saw arguments unfold through text and dating become an endless choice of faces, without less loneliness. I built Verbal to try something different. Hearing someone’s voice might help us listen with more respect and give each other a chance. What people think, and who they are, matters more to me than appearances. That’s the connection I want Verbal to encourage.
